The Musical Director - Brian Moyle
Brian attended Treswithian School, Camborne and left in 1961 at the age of 15 to join the Army as a musician. He attended the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall, Twickenham, where he learned to play the trombone. Brian left Kneller Hall to join his regiment, the Queen's Own Hussars, in Germany. This began a career as a professional musician which during the ensuing 25 years took him to many places round the world including South Arabia, Russia, Canada, Singapore, East and West Germany, (as they were then), and of course all over the United Kingdom.
Following 16 years service with the Queen's Own Hussars Brian transferred to the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards where he became Band Sergeant Major. At this point in his career Brian gained a wide range of musical experiences including rehearsing the band, conducting the band on public engagements and teaching bandsmen and women the theory of music. He was principal trombone player in his band and also led a dance band and traditional jazz band.
Brian retired from the regular army in 1986 and obtained employment with the Social Services where he worked with children and young people. He took up his music again in 1997 when he became the bandmaster of the Gibraltar Band, the band of the First Light Infantry Volunteers which was based in Bodmin. Regrettably Brian had to relinquish this post when the band was disbanded in 1999 because of military cutbacks.
Brian (on the left of the picture), accepted the baton of the West Cornwall Concert Band from his predecessor Robert Jewel in December 2006 to take over as musical director and lead the band into the future. Brian's first season with the band, 2006/2007 has been very successful with the band being engaged to play at prestigious venues such as various National Trust gardens and more homely venues such as local village halls, but whatever the venue Brian approaches the band's public performances with exactly the same aim, namely, to bring good music to his audience and to entertain them with a wide variety of swing, jazz, classical and show music.
